Team Animal Slams Javed Akhtar For Criticising Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Lick My Shoe’ Dialogue; Say, ‘Let Love Be Free From The Politics Of Gender’
As the entire team of Animal is busy basking in the success of the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, recently veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar criticised a few dialogues of the movie. Having released more than a month ago, the movie is still going strong at the box-office and was called out by many for its problematic storyline, promoting toxic masculinity and glorifying violence. Now the makers of the movie have taken to social media to callout the veteran for criticising particular scenes from the film.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the team has reacted to Akhtar questioning the movie’s success. They slammed him for his views and stated that he would be celebrated the ‘lick my shoe dialogue if it was said to a man by a female protagonist. They wrote, “Writer of your calibre cannot understand the betrayal of a lover (Between Zoya & Ranvijay) then all your art form is big FALSE & If a woman (betrayed and fooled by a man in the name of love) would have said "lick my shoe" then you guys would have celebrated it by calling it feminism. Let love be free from the politics of gender. Let's just call them lovers. LOVER cheated and lied. LOVER said lick my shoe. Period @Javedakhtarjadu.”

For those who don’t know, it was during his speech at the  Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival in Aurangabad, where he expressed his concern of a film like Animal being super hit. He had said, “Agar koi film jisme ek aadmi ek aurat se kahe 'tu mere joote chaat', agar ek aadmi kahe 'iss aurat ko thappad maar dene mein kya kharaabi hai?' wo picture superhit ho to badi khatarnaak baat hai.”

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles. Released on 1 December 2023. the movie has garnered a lot of mixed chatter because of its toxic and ignorant dialogues and plotline. The movie has become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2023 in Bollywood.
